Hòa Hảo Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of the Buddha. It was founded by Prophet Huỳnh Phú Sổ in 1939. It is named after the Hòa Hảo village where it was established in Châu Đốc Province of Âu Lạc, also known as Vietnam. The two words “Hòa Hảo” imply harmony and goodness. Today we present excerpts of the teachings of Prophet Huỳnh Phú Sổ. “THE DEAD CANNOT EAT” “After that, he recited a poem titled "Be Filial" and advised everyone to make offerings with vegan food: Repay the ancestors’ favor the Buddhist way, by offering vegan food to your deceased parents. That is the pure and benevolent practice and their souls will be light and liberated.” “LOOKING FOR THE BUDDHA” “One day, my father appeared in my dream and scolded me: ‘A living Buddha is here on Earth already, and you still don't practice spiritually? Let me tell you. You keep chasing after fame and gain, later if you suffer, don't complain, and it will be too late to regret. This is the final age. If you don't practice spiritually, you will regress into a suffering realm forever.’”
